Description:

Staff Accountant

The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) , the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world (representing over 80,000 pilots at 43 U.S. and Canadian airlines) seeks an experienced Staff Accountant for our Tysons (McLean), Virginia office. The Staff Accountant is responsible for all daily accounting tasks, including the accurate and timely posting and reporting of Association revenues and cash receipts, completing reconciliations, preparing financial transactions for posting to general ledger, and invoicing non-membership-related products and services for various Association subsidiaries and affiliations. The position is responsible for providing Finance management with financial information by researching and analyzing accounts, performing general bookkeeping, preparing and analyzing budgets, and preparing various financial statements and reports. They serve as a receivables expert for system updates and enhancements related to the collections process and are responsible for completing the setup and configuration steps necessary for external file interface uploads used to process collections. They manage the Association’s bank accounts and ensure adherence of required governmental reporting compliance. They support the Association’s Investment Management Committee and manage the implementation of various Association insurance policies. They engage in ongoing training sessions with other staff members to ensure that daily financial operations are carried out efficiently and effectively while continually looking for ways to improve processes. They also work closely with other staff to develop helpful approaches for improvement and/or resolution and provide backup support for other staff accountants on their team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant area, e.g., Accounting, Finance, or related field, from an accredited college or university required; or, the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three (3) years of related experience required, five (5) or more strongly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical and problem-solving skills required.
  • Experience with automated accounting system(s) required. Experience with Infor Financials & Supply Management, Aptify, and/or Tableau a plus.
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, for effective interaction with internal staff, external contacts, and pilots.
  • Strong strategic planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Software: Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint required.

Occasionally required to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve binders, books, boxes, and files up to ten (10) pounds (lbs.). While on travel, could be responsible to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve luggage weighing as much as 50 lbs. (Assistance may not always be available.)
