About the Role
The Project Estimator is responsible for analyzing project specifications, assessing material and labor costs, and preparing detailed estimates for mechanical contracting projects, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems—with an emphasis on plumbing. This role requires strong analytical skills, industry knowledge, and the ability to collaborate with project managers, engineers, and vendors to ensure competitive and accurate bids.
Responsibilities
• Review and interpret construction plans, specifications, and blueprints.
• Prepare detailed and accurate plumbing cost estimates, including labor, materials, and equipment.
• Analyze job sites and assess project requirements to ensure accurate bidding.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotes to ensure cost efficiency.
• Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and general contractors.
• Collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop accurate and competitive bid proposals.
• Identify and mitigate potential project risks, including budget constraints and scheduling conflicts.
• Participate in bid reviews, negotiations, and project handoffs.
• Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and pricing fluctuations.
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal plumbing codes and regulations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Proficiency in leveraging estimating software (Trimble, Bluebeam, or similar). Familiarity with ProCore and Computer Ease is a plus.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, local building codes, industry standards, and construction methods.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
• Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple project estimates simultaneously.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Education and Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree (required).
• 3+ years of experience in mechanical estimating, preferably in plumbing.
Field of Study
• Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Certifications and Licenses
• Certified Professional Estimator (CPE); Estimating Certification (Mechanical); Certified Cost Professional (CCP); Construction Estimating Certificate a plus.
