Product Design Specialist- Must have 3-6 yrs. exp. in product (physical not digital) design

Location N. Georgia Plant + Alpharetta Office

Position Summary

The Product Design Specialist will be responsible for creating and developing innovative product designs and patterns supporting the overall North America Business. This role includes assisting the design part lead and Surfaces Product Development director with delegated tasks, supporting marketing and sales teams by providing design concepts and resources, and delivering presentations to promote new products both internally and externally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze market and design trends, customer preferences, and competitor products.
  • Develop concepts and strategies for new product designs, including patterns, colors, and surface finishes.
  • Create, develop, and test prototypes for new product concepts.
  • Improve and update existing product designs based on market feedback and technical feasibility.
  • Generate design samples for customer presentations and internal review (e.g., The Home Depot).
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and the technical team to implement innovative production technologies.
  • Support marketing and sales with visual assets, product storytelling, and design insights.
  • Deliver engaging presentations for internal teams and external stakeholders to promote new designs.
  • Work closely with the Surfaces Product Planning personnel, development engineers and external consultants or partners (including HQ designers) as needed.
  • Participate in customer meetings and trade events to gather feedback and present new products.
  • Assist in preparing and producing lab samples and mock-ups for customer review.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Textile Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Industrial Design, or a related field
  • 3–6 years of experience in interior/building product or industrial design
  • Experience working with manufacturing, engineers, and others

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong skills in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Experience with other design software (e.g., CAD, 3D modeling, rendering tools) is a plus.
  • Excellent visual, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Creative thinker with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Initiative-driven with solid problem-solving capabilities.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit at a computer for prolonged periods (approximately 2/3 of the time).
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is essential.
  • Travel may be required up to 20% of the time.
