About the Role

Seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join as an Aviation Technical Specialist I. This is a great opportunity for recent graduates looking to start their career in aviation, environmental planning, or transportation infrastructure.

You’ll be working with public-use airports across Tennessee, helping develop airport capital plans, coordinate with FAA, review environmental documents, and support aviation projects across planning, safety, and compliance.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university (aviation, engineering, planning, or related field preferred)

No prior experience required – ideal for entry-level candidates

Candidates with aviation-related background may be eligible for additional compensation

What You’ll Do

  • As an Aviation Technical Specialist I, you will:
  • Manage planning tasks for 10–15 public-use airports in Tennessee
  • Assist with Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) development and project programming
  • Guide airport sponsors on terminal infrastructure and GPS navigation aids
  • Support compatible land use planning on and off airport property
  • Review FAA Form 7460-1 and assist in federal/state compliance
  • Evaluate project feasibility studies and cost estimates
  • Support environmental documentation reviews under FAA/NEPA regulations
  • Collaborate with FAA, SHPO, and stakeholders on historic/environmental issues
  • Use technical manuals and FAA circulars to develop project specifications
  • Learn funding and scoring processes for Federal and State aviation projects
  • Utilize software tools to review and annotate aviation planning documents
